Your assessment results for:

Shedding or hair loss

Urgency level: Low priority

Monitor your dog at home and contact your family veterinary practice if the situation doesn’t improve

What to do next

Monitor your dog for any new symptoms

  • Contact your family veterinary hospital if your dog develops any of the following:
    • Damaged or inflamed skin,
    • Greasy/red/bald patches of skin
    • Increased thirst or drinking more than usual

Why it’s lower priority

Shedding without other symptoms is usually normal

  • Based on what you’ve selected, your dog’s shedding may be normal. You do not require immediate veterinary attention.
  • It’s important to note that while some dogs may shed their coat seasonally, that is not always the case. Skin issues in combination with shedding, or prolonged excessive shedding are usually signs of something more serious.

Home care tips

Regular grooming helps reduce shedding when not caused by disease

  • Regular brushing (once a week, more frequently for some breeds) and bathing (once a month) may help with the shedding.
  • If your dog’s coat is very dirty or matted, consider taking them to a pet groomer.
