Constipation

Constipation in dogs presents itself very similarly to constipation in humans: infrequent or absent bowel movements that also produce hard and/or dry stool. There may be other signs also present, including straining or wincing when trying to poop, or scooting (dragging their bottom along the ground).

If the constipation lasts for longer than a few days or if there’s more severe symptoms like vomiting, blood in the stool or a swollen belly, you’ll want to talk to your vet. The severity and length of your dog’s constipation all help determine the underlying cause and any prescribed treatment by your veterinarian.
