What are signs your dog is constipated?

Telltale signs of constipation in dogs include dry, hard stools and straining when trying to poop. No bowel action from your dog for two or more days is also a sign. Sometimes constipated dogs will pass mucus when attempting to defecate. Other symptoms that typically accompany constipation in dogs are:

  • Scooting (dragging its bottom along the ground)
  • Straining when trying to poop
  • Yelping or wincing when trying to poop

If your dog is yelping and showing signs of pain when defecating, however, it’s an indication that there’s something more serious going on, and needs medical attention. Diarrhea and decreased appetite are also signs of a severe case of constipation.
