When should you see a vet about your dog’s diarrhea?

If your dog’s diarrhea persists and does not improve for more than a day despite the simple at home treatment measures, or gets worse, you should seek veterinary care to determine the cause (if possible) and treat it so that your dog does not become dehydrated or more sick.

Although diarrhea is one of the most common illnesses experienced by dog owners, it’s also one of the most dangerous because there are many possible causes. Knowing the signs of a more serious issue or emergency can help prevent the situation from getting worse.

Your vet will want to do a physical exam of your dog and discuss his or her medical history, including any recent changes in your dog’s behavior or health (such as eating non-food items, diet, activity level, etc).
