How do you prevent your dog from getting a fever?

Unfortunately, fevers are a part of life that we can’t prevent or control. The best thing we can do is to look out for the signs of fever, and seek veterinary help promptly.

We can prevent our dogs from getting hyperthermia/overheating. Dogs should never be left in a hot car. If you’re unsure if it’s too hot to leave your dog, the best plan is to always err on the side of caution. Even just a mild day can get toasty very quickly inside a locked car.

Dogs should also not be left outside, or exercised on hot days. During summer heat waves, plan to take your dog for short walks in the early morning or after sunset.
