It is never normal to see obvious blood in your dog’s urine, so further investigation by your veterinarian is almost always needed. In most cases, you should see your vet the same day or the following day.
If you can’t get to a vet soon, it’s best to call your veterinary clinic and they’ll help you decide what to do next based on the urgency of the situation.
Since a urine sample is usually needed, it’s a good idea to collect this at home before your appointment.
In more serious cases, a visit to the emergency clinic is warranted – especially if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Lethargy or fatigue
- Decreased appetite or vomiting
- Unable to pass any urine, or only in very small amounts
